Postcard Sales at Koh Panyi Island which is near the world famous James Bond Island.



My girlfriend and I spent the night in a Muslim floating fishing village called Koh Panyi which is close to the world famous James Bond Island (man with the golden gun movie). It’s a village of about 2,300 people, entirely constructed on stilts over the water. The story is that the village was founded about 200 years ago by a Muslim fisherman who came from Java with his family and was ship wrecked here. Supposedly everyone in the village is descended from this one family, and now there is a primary school, a mosque, a market, and even a football field.
The image pictured above was taken whilst walking around the village at ease as all the tourists had gone leaving just my girlfriend and I to mix with the local people of Koh Panyi.
