Ashness Bridge – One of the best photographic locations in the Lake District

Ashness Bridge Sunset

Ashness Bridge Sunset

Despite being one of the most photographed and best viewpoints in the Lake District, the view from Ashness Bridge, across Derwent Water and Skiddaw, is well worth a visit. Avoid the crowds by going early morning or late afternoon.  Sunset could potentialy provide dramatic lighting and a light reading to slow your shutter speed down. Ashness Bridge can be located by taking the narrow road to Watendlath, a left-turn off the B5289 beside Derwent Water, about three miles south of Keswick. Surprise View is another popular area, which can easily be reached by parking your car and taking a short walk up the hill. The whole area has lakes, mountains, rivers and waterfalls and offers some of the best views in the Northern Lake District to photograph.

Captured on the Canon 5D mark 2 with the Canon16-35mm L lens and tripod.
